Editorial

Long time EMANA employee Juan Vergara died of throat cancer on July 3, 2007. Juan’s working career has put his touch on the additions to Colegio Ingles and the new construction at both Colegio Robert Johnson and of course Instituto Agricola Kusayapu. EMANA is proud to have had to opportunity to work with Juan all of these years. We will most certainly meet again. EMANA would like to thank all of the congregations and individuals who provided assistance to Juan’s family in this time of great need.

All for the Glory of God.

Prayer

Our dear Savior, we come before you with thanksgiving and gratitude in our hearts for all our provision. Whatever our need, you supply. Father we thank you for your Son Jesus Christ, for your mercy, grace, and forgiveness. May we forgive anyone the Holy Spirit has place our hearts at this time, for You have forgiven us. Thank you for family, the example of your nurturing love…yet where there is not nurturing in them, You are with us. We ask your blessings upon EMANA, upon all of her projects…Kusayapu, Sponsorship Program, CAF, Julia Navarro Nursing Home, our medical, dental and eye glass projects as well. Bless all of our supporting congregations and we pray for each of them to know you better through this ministry. Thank you for all those in need you lead us to. Thank you for all things you have given us governance over, may we be faithful to your blessings. In the sweet name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

The Borchert Medical/Dental/Eyeglasses Team, UMC-Lebanon, Georgia

This team traveled over 4,600 miles to be with us at Emana, and traveled even farther. Their overnight flight, long airport wait, additional travel time to the north of Chile did not end the moment they arrived in Iquique. They entered the EMANA bus for another 2 hour trip into the altiplano and Pachica, where they set up their clinic to treat patients living in the Canyon Tarapaca. After only a day of rest, they were on the road again for a night in Iquique, then back to the altiplano. From Pachica they ventured into the pueblo of Sibaya (4 hours from Iquique) where they were met by many needing teeth pulled, a schoolyard of children needing dental and medical care, and adults receiving eye glasses. Then it was back to Pachica for the night, with an early wake up call the next morning for travel to one of the far remote areas of the altiplano, Chiapa. Most Chileans have never been there, and we were surprised to see eucalyptus trees on our arrival. Although few now live in Chiapa and her surrounding villages, those that do were happy to see this team, and “saw” better when the team left, having received eye wear for reading and distance.

EMANA and the people of the altiplano wish to thank the Borchert Team for their patience with this venture and we want to assure them though there were not thousands, those that did have the blessing to receive their touch, their experience, and hearts, were greatly blessed, as were we. God is Good.

Eyeglasses Project

(Advance 14791T)

Lions Clubs, Rotarians, and United Methodist congregations have blessed the people of Chile with their response to needed prescription eyewear. Our goal is to visit each and every pueblo in the northern region of Chile and provide sight to those who have difficulty seeing. Future teams are needed as it takes a minimum of 8 volunteers for an Eyeglasses Clinic. Please contact us if you are interested.

Sewing classes at Kusayapu

(Advance 14791T)

A classroom has been prepared for sewing classes for the women of Pachica and Canyon Tarapaca. As teams arrive, we hold a minimum of two sessions with those of the pueblo. The Chilean government has donated one machine to all pueblos, but they are lacking in knowledge of how to sew. Join us to assist these Andean families.

CAF (Family Violence Center)

Advance 14800A

Construction teams are urgently needed for February, March, April 2008…to construct Family Violence Counseling offices for CAF (Centro Atencion Familiar, Advance 14800A) in Alto Hospicio.

At the moment the Methodist Church in Alto Hospicio has been allowing CAF to share the pastors office, but space which is needed for workshops, private counseling and staff has made it urgent that this building be done as soon as possible.

We urge you to join us in prayer and search your hearts and congregations for interest in this project. The office spaces do not have bathrooms, as nearby Colegio Wm. Taylor is providing use of their bathrooms for staff and visitors. So, block construction will go quickly. Three teams can finish this job.

Help us to continue in this incredibly valuable project as we work with other denominations and municipal offices to deter familiy violence in a community populated by Aymara families who have migrated to Alto Hospicio and are now being faced with a new culture.
